TRANSMUTER TM3 – Terry de Havilland made in London 1999
High wedge single left foot, front laced, calf high boot crafted in black patent leather with 3 x buckled strap detailing and mirrored wedge panels.
One of the Transmuter range of boots that were designed after Magic Shoes went into liquidation. Transmuters are more commonly known for their spiked rubber Craig Morrison panelling and were personally described by Terry as “my angry boot”. The panels on the wedged soles are screwed into place, designed to be removed and replaced with a variety of different panels. They were launched in Terry and Liz’s Camden Stables shoe Emporium “Cobblers to the World” in 2000. Terry loved them so much he put his name on them. They were an overnight success and have been copied widely.

DAWN SKULL – Kamikazi Shoes London
A Pair of 1980s flat, winkle picker toed ankle boots with silver bat buckle detailing.
After Terry de Havilland Ltd was put into liquidation at the end of the 70s, Terry set up a company called Kamikazi Shoes with Andrew Kephalas. Bored with the business of fashion Terry went off on a totally different tangent designing street style fashions for Punks and Goths. These were the antithesis of what Terry was known for and he chose to design them anonymously. They were cheap and cheerful and “available in any colour as long as that colour is black”. The collections proved to be hugely successful and sold worldwide. The factory in London was churning out 800 pairs a day at its height. To this day people are amazed to find out that they were wearing Terry’s designs back in the 80s without even knowing it.

KAREN - Kamikazi Shoes London
A classic, 80s winkle picker court shoe based on the shoes that Terry’s father Terry Higgins used to make in the 50s. Terry discovered his skills as a designer in the late 50s when his father called him back to the family business Waverley Shoes to help cope with their work overload. He never looked back.
